This is postmarked 11 Mar 1874 or 3 Nov 1874, I am not sure which. I believe that is the crown of St Stephen, so the stamp should be Hungary. The postmark is pretty well SOTN, but the stamp appears to have been cut too close. Does anyone know of this stamp, catalog number or near value. Thanks - Jeff

Hm, sorry Rod, no. Posthorn to right, cross inclined to left, so it`s deffinitly not 8. The postmark is vf, `Nagyszombat`. It is neither an 1896, which is quite valuable, but those are all unused and have watermark. So it`s 1871, but the cheaper.
I`ll be back with CV in Euro.

The postmark is not really rare, so no semnificative bonus for it. (about, or less than 50 point- 5-35 p. frequent/ 40-100 more sought/ 150-350 very rare/ 400-800 extremely rare/ RR only a few known.) It seems, that both the stamp itself, and the postmark on it it`s frequent.

Nagyszombat is the Hungarian name for Trnava which is now in Slovakia.

Thanks wadmalatz, et al I appreciate the input. So I guess I just mark it as a 1871 Revenue?

Thanks Wadmalatz,
I didn't see that.

No, it's a postage, carrying newspapers,
so it is B.o.b.
Type N2
posthorn to the right

I'm not sure I get Stanley Gibbons descriptive
it is a bit vague
It seems to omit the stamp N2
even though the image is shown.

This is Hungary SG N14 (on white paper) or SG N15 (greyish paper) from 1871. Both are SG Type N3 (posthorn to right). SG prices in 2002 for complete stamps with four margins were £1.25 and £3.00 respectively.
