New Canadian Member From Frigid Sk

Hello everyone. My name is Mike and I live in Regina, Saskatchewan where it was -36C last night(not counting the wind chill factor). Great weather for indoor activities like stamp collecting and surfing the internet. I am retired and decided that stamp collecting would be an interesting way to fill my idle time. I mainly collect Canada, Great Britain, US, Germany, Ireland and Australia. With regards to the first four countries, I collect both mint and used while the last two mainly used. I belong to the local stamp club and attend meetings twice a month. My stamp knowledge is evolving slowly and am really impressed with the wealth of knowledge exhibited by members on this site as well as their willingness to help other members develop and expand theirs. That only converts to -34F

Lady and Gentlemen, I thank you for your warm welcome. I am looking forward to contributing to this interesting website. Presently, I am in the Testing area of this site experimenting with the uploading of a stamp image but I am only uploading a small image that is fitting in the upper right corner of the image space. Good news, I was successful in scanning a good size image of the possible forged Machin stamp and posted the item in the main stamp collecting forum.

Welcome aboard Mike. Having been raised in Minnesota and now living in the sunny? South I have become a real woosey and do not miss the coooold at all. It's about 18F here tonight and for us that's extreme cold.

Is that a dry cold like in the Yukon that you have there?

Easier to take than the wet cold with wind by the sea when it goes down in temperature I hear. A friend's brother had to escape back home to Yellowknife after he was here in the Winter one year visiting.

Always amazes me what humans can adapt to.

Puzzler, yes Saskatchewan has a dry cold and you can dress for the frigid temperatures but what I find difficult to take is the high winds on the bald prairie when it is -30c to -40c. There isn't much between Regina and Calgary to block the wind. It has been my observation while travelling throughout the province that it feels colder in the south than in the northern part of the province because of the lack of trees to block the wind. I see you are from Halifax and I grew up there. I fondly remember the shorter, milder winters there but I recall in the sixties that I spent many hours shovelling snow that was up to my waist.
