I have acquired several dozens of these US postage dues with a circular ring cancel and most have the letters "NY" in the center (the others have faint cancels so I can't tell). The "N" is oriented as it should be when you are writing the letter but the "Y" is oriented 90 degrees to the right. Are these a special cancellation and are they worth any more or less than a normal cancel? Thanks Mike

I believe these are New York precancels

very interesting. I don't know, but I bet some one around here does. Maybe, warrehouse can help out.

These are sometimes called pearls but most I have seen are a purple color.
