Can someone offer me reasonably current
Gibbons prices on a sample of QV please?

Say (used)
SG210 10d ($20)
SG206 4.5d ($20)
SG207a 5d ($6)
SG208 6d ($6)

Thanks very much.

Hi there,

The 2009 SG GB Concise listings:

SG210 10d (£38)*=£1250
SG206 4.5d (£40)
SG207a 5d (£11)
SG208 6d (£10)*=£850

*= premium for inverted Wmk.

Have a Great Weekend! Go Raiders!

Thanks,
well, I may be out of touch,
I am working from a circuit book,
and I was thinking the prices were dodgy,
a 10c stamp has a price of $7.50 on it.
That may be an aberation, so I thought
I check with the classics, looks like 30% of catalogue.
Still very expensive to what I am used to,
some of the cancels are less than reasonable.

Still, looks like prices have jumped whilst I blinked.

Hi there rod222,

I'm no expert by any means, especially when it comes to Queen Victoria, but I can say that if the postmarks are heavy or smudged in the least 30% is asking a lot. I think the strike on the 1/- below would be probably considered on the better side of 'fine' as described by Stanley Gibbons in their catalogue and would be considered worthy of a 30% value.

Thanks for your advice and support,
I am in a bit of a quandry,
Most groups I have belonged to,
offer and sell within the group at good
prices, "support your members" type of thing.
This is a new group, and some of the things I am seeing
are perplexing, stamps with big chunks out of them
listed for $2.
I have always strongly encouraged stamp club participation
but this is a new experience altogether.

Hi Skilo, I like the cancel but this stamp has got some real problems: it's quite dirty, it's badly centred and it has quite a few short perfs.

That's a tough one, Rod. Some people resent being told they have an ugly baby.

If you're in it for the long haul, you may just have to vote with your pocketbook and let people figure out for themselves why other people are selling stamps, and they aren't.

Around here, "regular" Victoria and Edward can be found for much less than 30% of Scott (to say nothing of SG). I recently bought an envelope with a handful of used Edwards (and a few KGV), this and that up to the 6d, with some duplication. I'm sure it theoretically catalogues at least $150 to $200. I paid $5. I didn't hesitate, but I also didn't feel that I got the deal of the century.

I've heard GB is headed back up, but it hasn't happened locally, yet.

skilo54, does the 1-shilling have good color in person? It looks a bit faded on my screen (but I'm borrowing a computer today...might be on my end).

Hi Nigelc, I Knew I should have stated earlier that I was speaking of the cancel specifically, and not the stamp. I apologize for the confusion I may have caused with my earlier post, and thanks for bringing this up so I could clarify. I completely agree with your assessment of that QV 1/- for the record. I just wanted to try and show a nice quality postmark before I cooked dinner!

Have a Great One, Go Raiders!

Hi Cjd,

No not really good colour, but I have seen way worse than this by far. The way I understand it, this green seems to be very tricky and $$ to get with nice colouring. The QV I showed earlier was probably purchased by a postmark collector who could have cared less about the stamp.

Have a Good One,

Good comments all,
It will be the only club really I can attend,
and I don't want to appear to march in,
denigrating the regime, yet at the same time
I cannot hypothetically pay premium prices for stamps
I generally give away.
I see signatures on the stock book and people are paying
for some of them.
A real head scratcher.
I think I shall attend a few more meetings and see how it goes.
I appreciate your scans and explanations, all.

Other than that I'll have to see if any clubs have circuit books
can be sent to the Mulga.

Just an update on Skilo's 2009 prices: In my 2011 Part 1, none of these prices have moved at all since 2009.
