Most of us would remember the famous scene in Lord of the Rings, where the Golem catches a live fish and devours it.
Well here we have on an old USA postage stamp the golem doing just that.
I know it is a freak accident, but it is a talking point.
I have heard of a place on ebay that buys weird and strange things. Maybe I will list it.
Regards,
Horamakhet

It is really looking like the character Gollum.

It is not 'the Golem' or 'a Golem' though. That is a strange homunculas figure from older literature. A stone creature I think I remember?

Ah, A golem is an artificial animated being in medieval and Jewish folklore.

The Golem or just Golem has also been the name of books, movies, operas, music, is found in Gaming (Dingeons & Dragons) etc.

Gollum is the character's name in Tolkien's books, named thusly only because it was the sound he made as he swallowed. A leftover from an older Hobbit clan as we shall probably see in the upcoming (and much anticipated) The Hobbit movies, based on the book The Hobbit by Tolkien.

Gollum in Wikipedia (very large article)

Strange and sad what people and Hobbits can come to, driven and misled by dark forces.

Hi Puzzler
As an Archaeologist and Historian I find all myths and legends fascinating. The Golem of Jewish Mysticism is supposed to still exist some-where in Germany, waiting for the person with the right knowledge to awaken it.
Real scary thought, as the Golem can be used for good or bad.

I'm pretty sure that Ramble On is referring to the Gollum of Tolkien and not the Golem of Jewish mysticism. Led Zeppelin used other Tolkien references, too.

I can sort of see the image in the inkblot, with the help of lots of suggestion...a bit like looking at clouds. But it looks like the movie version, which is not how I had imagined him from the books.

If you'd found Richard Nixon or the Virgin Mary, then you'd have something for ebay.

Hi to all
One other question is it supposed to be imperf down one side. It has not been trimmed.
