This is a branch cancel, probably Station P. US Post Office did not start parcel post until Jan. 1, 1913.

New York on Scott 217

Also I should clarify that the US post offices accepted parcels but applied regular postal rates. There was not a parcel post rate or regular parcel post service until 1913.

Hi,

I have another question about this stamp.

I compare this stamp with another I have. There are some differences and this stamps is very clear. Lines are exact, etc.

Is die deterioration can do that ?

Add some pictures :

Thank you!

Hi,

I look again at this stamp today and printing quality is exceptional. On the head, small square are perfect. You can see small dots lines easily. Lines and details are perfect on all the stamp. Lines are straight. Look proof. Printing is as beautiful as perforation are not... very weird :-)

I know it exist 205c (special printing) but copy are not common.

Is exist other scott #205 die proof?

Add other pictures :

Thank you!

I agree with plate wear. Under-inking could also be a factor.

Hi,

It's probably something like that because quality printing is very exceptional. Print in 1882... incredible and extremely fine. When you look at a stamp like that, you can conclude : Stamp printing is an ART.

Thank you!
