I think I can see 40 (1940) in a couple of the circular strikes, and if Ireland were in the war with England then that might account for the OPENED BY CENSOR label that is on the envelope. Written in Irish and English, it's the only Irish piece of censored mail I have. Anyone collect these, or know about the censoring or maybe The Texas Company? Thanks - Jeff

Ireland (Eire) was neutral in WWII, and the US wasn't yet at war in 1940, so this is an interesting cover.

re the company sending the envelope:
The company was founded as Galena-Signal Oil Company (of Ireland) Limited in 1924 and changed its name to The Texas Company (of Ireland) Limited in 1929. Further, the company changed its name to Caltex (Ireland) Limited in 1951 and to Texaco (Ireland), Ltd. in 1967. The company is based in Quarryvale, Ireland. Texaco (Ireland), Ltd. operates as a subsidiary of Chevron Corp.
