Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers, winners of Super Bowl XLV. Scott #3147 honors Green Bay's longtime coach, Vince Lombardi - one of the legends in all of sports, and the man for whom the Super Bowl trophy is named.

And here is why their win is worth mentioning. The city of Green Bay has a population of 101,000. The stadium in Dallas (where the game was played) seats 103,000. Green Bay's "metro area" (if you can call it that) measures around 250,000, and no other NFL city is less than a million...most are measured in the millions. So they are the little guys. But that still isn't why it is important.
The Green Bay Packers are the only community-owned team in any of the major American professional sports. Much of the "stock" is owned by local doctors, lawyers, storeowners, professors, undertakers, and the like. There is no fat-cat owner smoking a cigar in his luxury box. League rules were instituted to prevent another team from being owned by the community, presumably because the other owners want to be able to run roughshod over the cities and the fans in pursuit of the almighty dollar. That won't happen in Green Bay.
Super Bowl winners come and go, and at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter in the grander scheme of things, but when the little guys win, its worth a mention.
