I have two double sided (that's why I am not sure they are even stamps) pieces of paper that appear German. If they are stamps, does anyone know about them? If they are not, I apologize, but does anyone know what they are. I have had them in my "what the heck is this" box forever. Thanks as always - Jeff

I believe it's "emergency" local currency known as "Notgeld". Based on the denominations you have, I think you'll find them to be from Austria.

Here's a link:

I did pull off the internet this quote to explain some of the writing on the faces of these notes:

"Most notgeld will have the name of a town on it. Some will say something like this; Gutschein der Stadt.........Gutschein der Gemeinde......... Gutschein translates as 'voucher'."

They look like notgeld, which was a currency used in inflation-era Germany and Austria, I believe...maybe other places, too. These were often sold by stamp dealers, which is why they are frequently found with old collections.

I ran across this today, by coincidence, in a lot of older "stuff."

Based on the description, it must be from the 1950's, or so.

Notgeld before in SCF
Under the cryptic (and useless thread heading) "old or new"

https://goscf.com/t/5110&SearchTerms=old,or,new

You may assist SCF perhaps, if you would consider
changing your thread heading to "Austria Notgeld"
or something similar?

A little bit in addition.
These "Notgeld" were produced in and after the WW I. Due to shortage in
all sort of metal, There Could not be produced enough coins.
Later on some smart people noticed, that these "Notgeld" were collected
by many people - so they printed "Notgeld" Series in varius shapes and
hoped, that these "Money" would stay in possession of the collectors and
never come in circulation - and they were right!
Yours shown, are of the latter kind. The majority worth 1 Euro each.
Peter
