Purchased part of a mint canadian assortment from private party and to my surprise he added some US , Falkland Islands and british . I'll be scanning all day but these 2 were notes are extremely intereting and quite an amazing print job. When would these have been done , what were they used for and would they be considered postal or currency?
Also you can see the hinge reminent on the one and I'm affraid to soak this so should it be left or since there is no gum would it hurt the overall condition. Also gotta ask what they would be worth?

Beautiful engravings on those items to be sure. As for the reason for use of fractional currency, here's a link to explain it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractional_currency

I have no detail as to values, as they are not stamp catalog listed. That may be a subject better left to the Coin Collecting Forum more than this one for Stamps.

Also, given that these are from the US Civil War-era, the condition looks almost too good making me wonder if they are authentic. Specialists in that subject would have to guide you more than I can, though.

They are currency notes. I'd say about $13.00 for the 3 cent and $8.00 for the 5 cent A.B.P. in the 2003 Blackbook price guide.

These were passed down 3 generations . Some of the canadian in this lot is in amazing condition so the condition falls in line with these. I'll post the other few american that came along with these. Might sell but man they look pretty.

I wonder if the National Bank Note Company of NY produced many currency notes and stamps, much like the American Bank Note Company. The engravings are very nice and interesting.
