I have a 44 gallon drum (almost) of Australia on paper,
and was going to give away free in 1 Kg lots
Postage for 1Kg to US is sea $20 !! Phew,
air is $29 and Express $58

I'll be donating them to the red Cross..sorry

(after soaking $20 postage would be more than what the stamps are worth)

we have sea mail,
at least that's what the stickers say on the counter.
Perhaps in real life, it's mail that fits
in the corner of the aircraft that airmail fails to fill,
I don't know.
I do know Mr. Hill's penny post has gone.

I was enquiring about seamail to the UK and it's possible that I misunderstood the postal clerk when she said that seamail didn't exist anymore.

In the UK the equivalent service is just called "surface mail", it takes about 6wks to Australia. Although my Mum tried to send a Christmas present surface mail to Canada and despite her best efforts didn't manage to persuade the clerk that such a service exists. But it does!
The lesson is - if you don't get the right answer from your postal clerk, seek a second opinion!

Well, I will definitely be pushier next time around. I lost a sale (a book) because the buyer didn't want to pay for the cost of sending it to the UK by air.

I also had the same problem with Japan, but in that case the buyer gave in and paid for his purchase to be airmailed to him.

My god, it's like CRUDE OIL down at Rod's house.

He's stockpiling stamps in barrels. There's just something about that mental image that makes me want to laugh.

Maybe you could just seal it up tight, put the whole barrel out to sea, and wait to see it on the news somewhere.

Rod, years back I purchased stamps from Australia bulk..i don't know how they could have made money on a 20 dollar transaction..!!

These Aussies must write a lot of letters !! It seems easier to get used Australian commemoratives than used U.S. ! Just think if Rod releases that oil drum of stamps on the market !!

Just as an aside, Canada Post does have a "surface mail" category and it pops up as an option both on line and at the Post Office for parcels overseas to selected countries, Australia and UK among them. To the U.S. though, it is an "Expedited Parcel" as the cheapest and that's Air. They do allow a Small Packet (something above letter size but under a certain weight) to go as Ground to the States. And the Surface Mail does take forever but you seem to play a bit of a lottery with it because a significant percentage seems to get put into Air Cargo anyway.

I'd love to see a picture of that barrel.

About 10 years ago a tea chest of Aussie was about
$5 -$10, I don't think Aussies write more letters
probably we save more stamps from covers, to
donate to charities etc.

and it returns plastic buckets. Must be slang!!
