Finally sourced an original packet of Australian Cinderellas that are passed off as CTO's. We always knew they were produced for "promotional reasons" by the actually usage had been a query. These are genuine Australian stamps that have been passed through the press where a dummy imitation postmark has been printed. Here they are used to encourage children to take up the hobby.

I know people who collect these abominations. The same people who pooh-pooh the Eastern European CTO's from the 60's and 70's |

jhlovell, I see that your education has been sadly neglected and that you are not up to speed in Classical Persian (what do they teach the children in your schools?) ... though I have to admit the strike of the cancellation isn't as clear as it might be. The cancellation reads 'Seal of the Iron Quarries, Jammu 1915(S)' (1915 Samvat Era is equivalent to 1858). Quite why the early stamps of Jammu were cancelled with it has never been explained, unfortunately. But there you are. Perfectly simple, really |

Sorry tonymacg did not get that far in history yet, just finished reading (yesterday) about the Persian Dhu Nawas, his conversion to Judaism (supposed) and his massacre of the Christians at Najran circa 518. I will get up to the postal period eventually, till then I really appreciate all the new stamp information you all are sharing. - Thanks - Jeff tonymacg how long have you been studying persian postmarks? |

Quote: tonymacg how long have you been studying persian postmarks Just long enough to quote from Frits Staal's The Stamps of Jammu & Kashmir More seriously, if they're beautifully clear, and I have a vague idea of what to expect, I can read them, up a point (Lord Copper). |

And as for you two, Mmmmbalf and Rod222, I am at a loss for words. To think that anyone could remain impervious to the siren call of the Jammu reds is beyond my comprehension. |
