I received this today on an APS membership solicitation. I'd never seen permit information on a hi-gloss self-adhesive label before so I thought I'd post a copy of the label (the scan doesn't do it justice). Is this something new or have I just not been paying attention?

Does this not come really close to being a stamp? Just asking.

There are others too. I got one just the other day -- looks very much like the logo on their page.

Not sure if I kept it or tossed it -- if I can find it, I'll post a scan sometime this weekend.

Oh, and Mystic does the same thing.

I have been getting the labels from APS for a while now and Mystic. That's why I enjoy the correspondence with the Spellman Museum, they still send out their mail on stamps. Usually older stamps which will make the postmarks not era correct, but the envelopes still look great.

Our stamp club talked about this. We still use postage stamps for the monthly bulletin.

I remember the cuts that rod222 posted. I think they were from early 1960's postage paid cards. Many collectors turn away from these items, but since they legitimately met a postal use in that day, I find them very collectible.

In fact, here are some of my cuts from the 1940's and 1950's (I saved these primarily because of the postmarks). Never quite understood why the local post offices would have bothered to postmark these sort of corners, except perhaps to document the date of delivery. Anyway, these are especially interesting because every now and then I come upon DPO's (discontinued post offices) which make for interesting cancellations to collect.

The APS has used this type of stamp for a few years.
