Here are a couple of groups of dated precancels from the State of New York. Any info. on company names will be appreciated. I think they read:

1938-39: SA Oct '38 | NCM May '39 | RRC Oct '39
1940: JHW May '40 | CTD Dec '40
1941: KB Jan '41 | UGI Aug '41 | DBC Oct '41

(NOTE: I believe I may have posted the SA Oct '38 previously and was informed that it was an unidentified user.)

Brooklyn, "NCM" is listed with a C2 Dated control used from 1938-40, user unknown.

"RRC" was used from 1938-44 by Rand Rubber Co. listed as using a C3. Same co. used "R.R.C." from 1944-46.

"UGI" is listed using a C4 from 1940-43 by an unidentified user.

The Buffalo precancel with the "JHW" was used by John H. Williams, (tool casting), listed using a C2.

Jamaica "KB-" user unknown from 1938-41 used a C3, from 1941-42 used a C23 then used "K.B." from 1942-55 with a C2.

Thanks for looking up all of this info.

The "RRC" (Rand Rubber Co., Brooklyn, NY) identification prompted me to look up what kind of products they made and I came up with this ... an interesting period ad for the company:

New York, "S.A." is an unknown user that used a C22 from 1941-42.

"CTD" is also an unknown user, used a C2 from 1938-40, a C13 from 1941-42, fnally a C4 in 1946.

"DBC" is not listed, WT1 recheck because there was a "CBC" which used a C3 from 1938-43, maybe used by Capitol Brassiere Co. but not comfirmed. "C.B.C.-" with a C3 in 1939 was confirmed as Capitol Brassiere but few it any co's would have used 2 types at the sametime. "CBC" was used again with a C3 in 1949.

Here's a close up of what I thought was DBC. Maybe DBO? DBG? Perhaps you have another idea?

Thanks for the blow up WT1. It looks like a "CBC" to me.

I'll buy the fact that it's CBC, but at first glance it didn't look that way (because the vertically oriented font threw me).

Anyway, here's another New York dated I found (ATC Sep'40)...any ideas as to the company?

Thanks. I can't find much listings for an American Tread Co., could it have been American "Thread" Company?

Thanks for clarifying. American Thread makes a lot more sense as they were located in New York City.

(BTW, I did find an American Tread Co. (tire retreading outfit) but their location was in Utah!)

Unfortunately the company name is obliterated, so I can't ask about that, but the precancel looks interesting and since it does not appear to be one of the numbered types, I assume it is an L-type (there were five different L-types for that city). Anyone care to help identify it?

I think you have a "CBL" used from 1938-42 by an unknown user. Also found in manuscript form.

Thanks. Do you know what type of precancel this is? (I assume it is one of the L-types.)
