There are some but sadly not many. Until someone designs a video game with stamps the younger generation do not see much interest. Then when it is popular it will be another collecting fad to pass by. Other collecting fads of the young that passed by were beanie babies, pogs, pokeman cards, even baseball cards died out with the younger generations. I have built 3 US collections for my children and can only hope some interest will take hold.
It's nice to get ikids in a serious learning environment perhaps as anything presented to them there has an added air of being adult and important. My guess there.
I liked the idea of having 5 free stamps and then a place (the library) to come back to when they wanted to that had more free stamps
It's the idea that grabs and holds people of all ages. It is not just the stamps themselves you are selling the idea of to young people but the adventure, the art, the beauty, the appreciation and things that connect with their lives now.
I would love to hear how the gentleman presented this to the kids. I bet that made a big difference in how they looked at it and approached the whole thing.
wt1 Thanks for bringing the article, it's very refreshing. It remind me when I was a kid and collecting stamps. I know there is a stampclub for young age between 8 and 16 in my borough. They help their members to choose a theme and eventually participate to contest. They organise seminar on stamp collecting. I don't know if they are allot of members.
I have managed to get 3 of my grandkids at least started and somewhat interested. 7-6-3 yrs old and the little 3 yr old is probably the most enthusiastic. He doesn't live close by but everytime I send him something he ask where it came from who or where is depicted and is very picky on how his album looks. One of the others brought her album in for show and tell and maybe peeked interest of a few classmates.
