When I was about 8 years old (a REALLY long time ago) I found a stamp from Canada in a drawer at my Grandma's house. WOW! I was so excited to find a stamp from another country. So exotic. And so it began. I collected extensively with my grandmother all through my youth. With her I collected US. I also collected foreign, all of it. In college I found a seller in the back of a stamp newspaper that sold bulk foreign off paper and I bought some. They were the best bulk lot I've ever seen or imagined. I bought a LOT more of them. I worked on stamps every weekend I was home from college. When I went off to grad school (finally had to flee my home state), I lost the collecting bug, too busy and impossible to physically transport the stuff across the country. About 7 yrs ago my mother came to visit me and brought my collection with her. Since then I've been somewhat actively working on the US BOB, but that's it. The rest has been sitting there. Recently I decided to go through it and see what I've got, and there is a lot.
I decided to go through the foreign and pull out a type set, one from of each type from each place from each govt. I was working on Italy yesterday and pulled out a regular issue from the Kingdom period and from the republic period. I pulled out an airmail from each period. Pnematic mail from each. Etc. I don't know how big this is going to get, but I found 32 types from Hungary so I'm guessing the answer is quite a few when I tackle the entire world.

Welcome aboard. You'll find that the hobby is a whole lot more fun when you are older and have the general knowledge about art, history, language, currency, geography and symbolism that enriches your studies.

It was the collecting that gave me all of that stuff in the first place and allowed me to succeed as far as I have.

I hope you also find this community to be a very enriching experience.

Welcome Jaysdad

It sounds like you have a very nice collection.

You mentioned pneumatic mail. That area by itself is quite a study and can be very rewarding too.

I hope you enjoy coming in to this forum every day. I know I do. Well, for most days anyway

Welcome! This is a great forum and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I have. The knowledge shown here by many individuals is quite high. I just joined a couple of week ago and have been visiting here nearly every day, when I can. Darn, its past midnight already?
Again, your gonna like it here.
