Hello folks! I am new here, so please be nice

Not really sure what to say about myself. I started collecting stamps around 1991 as a kid. Since then I have become one of those people with too many hobbies and not enough space/money to support them!

Sometimes a hobby of mine goes dormant for a while, then again rears its ugly head. It is now time for my stamp collection to get some attention.

I don't collect a single topic or country. Due to the rising cost, I only order modern US stamp issues that appeal to me, where I used to get at least one of everything each year. The same goes for foreign new issues. They have to strike my eye.

One thing I am a sucker for is a real nice, engraved issue, regardless of country. US private die revenues often fall under this catagory for me, but often they are out of my budget.

I was once told that I am not a collector... I am an accumulator. I didn't like that, really. So I am not sure WHAT I am, but I know what I like!

Collect whatever you like cause you only have to please you. Don't let anyone get in your way of that. And as far as treating you nice. This forum doesn't know how to treat people any other way. So WELCOME enjoy the fun and come on in - the water's fine. - Jeff

I finally won a 2010 Scott US catalog on ebay. I can't afford the full price of a new 2011, but since my current copy is from 2001, I figured it was time. I see that the Classic Worldwide versions are now fancy hardcovers. Mine is from 1996 and sort of hard to use.

Nells the last set of Scott catalogs (6) 2008 I purchased I won on ebay a year old for $175..i do not see myself buying another full set again...theres really only 2 of the 6 I might really need..i will pick them up when they are in the $20 range...there are really not that many new issues I would be interested in and for the most part prices do not vary enough for me to worry about..dealers need a new set of catalogs every year and then sell them off !!

Welcome Nells!

I see you like Engravings, so you are officially invited to the Engraved Stamps topic: https://goscf.com/t/7502

That's the active one at the moment. Many mouth-watering designs there, and some very knowledgeable people.

Think you'll enjoy it here. I arrived in September and although I haven't reached 200 posts yet, I haven't looked back!

A belated hi from another new member, welcome to the forum, Nells. Like yourself, I've developed over the years a number of different hobbies that seem to run hot and cold, but the fascination with stamps (and especially postal history) seems to hold my long-term attention much better than other hobbies. There's always something new to research, something new to discover, something new to learn. And the good folks here have been nothing but friendly, welcoming, and VERY knowledgable so far, no matter what newbie question I've posed. Have fun!

Thought I'd share that I am now a pround owner of a used copy of the 2009 Scott Classic Specialized catalog. HOLY COW! 10 times nicer than my old 1996 copy! I was shocked to see the stamps are now shown in COLOR! And it's HARDCOVER! A great investment... even if the values of what I have are no big deal...
