A relative gave this to me a while ago.
I don't have a prize for you but who can spot what I found very interesting about this?

brianh, the interesting thing is that the left cancel is marked Dalhousie, NB and the sender utilized American stamps instead of Canadian ones.

Although, mhc99 has the primary answer, it's a bit interesting that there are also at least 2 or 3 varieties of the Liberty Bell stamps used in this example. Can't tell exactly which ones due to quality of scan.

That was it. It is postmarked in Dalhousie, NB, Canada but the sender used United States stamps.

wt1, Looking at the stamps it looks like they came from the end of a booklet sheet which is 3 stamps wide. I don't know what formats this stamp comes in. They are all dated 2009 and seem to fit together as though they are the end row and 2 stamps from the next row.

Hi Brian and welcome to the forum

You do have an oddity alright simply because some of the stamps from the US and Canada due tend to get mixed and receive the other's cancellation.

An oddity worth keeping in an album but, unfortunately, not that uncommon. I have a few examples in my collection as well.

The Liberty "Forever" Stamps are a complicated issue to identify, as there are multiple printing/re-printings, dates and different printing vendors that each provide their own slight uniqueness to the stamp. To simplify what you have, in just looking at the perfs on the top row of stamps they are different from those on the bottom row.

Even though it relates to 2007 issues, the respective 2009 dated issues are subcategorized as 4125d (11.25 x 10.75 on 2 or 3 sides with bell 16mm wide and large microprinting); 4126d (same as 4125d except for small microprinting and 2009 printed in copper); 4127i (same as 4125d except for medium microprinting, bell 15mm wide, and date printed in copper); and 4128b (serpentine die-cut 8 on 2, 3 or 4 sides).

This link helps explain the microprinting:

Gets quite complicated after awhile.

Unfortunately I onlyhave this corner and it was not treated gently.
I have looked at each stamp and the microprinting is the same on all of them (0.75mm long)

I checked the perfs on all sides of all the stamps and made a scan of one. They are all perf.8.

So does this make them 4128b?

I hadn't seen U.S. stamps on Canadian mail before so that is why they caught my eye. They will go in my curiosity binder.
