Ok Us is new to me but very interesting as well as confusing. I understand the grill issues although if not obviously prevelant I'm stumped. Been using the mystic online catalog for some help but still not sure on a few between shades and dates. All I would like is scott # and if 2 out of 3 possibilities I can a even accept that. I'll be doing a few post and promise that will be it.
Russ if I could just borrow a 1/4 of your frontal lobe for a few hours I would be all set!

I could not see signs of a grill on any scans.
1. Scott 68
2. Scott 76
3. Scott 26
4. Scott 65 (very nice pale rose shade. This shade is often confused for pink)
5. Scott 63
6. Scott 65

So I wrote down my IDs before scrolling down to see Russ' reply. 6 for 6! I think I've found a new game.

Thanks russ-- Did a bit more reading and have pretty well narrowed most others down with confidence . Out of these 3 I believe 2 are 148 but the other I am not sure as it doesn't seem to fall into pink 186 or rose 208. If I had to pick between those 2 I would lean to 186 due to paper.
Otto next time beat russ to the punch I'm sure he could use the occasional break and would correct if needed.

Last one is definitely soft paper 186, middle looks soft paper but can't tell for sure. Check the first 2 for paper type and secret mark
http://1847usa.com/1870/Banknote06c.htm
If hard white paper no secret mark = 146
If hard white paper with secret mark = 159
If soft paper = 186
208 is re-engraved design very easy to tell.
