Recently found this 1947 Southern Rhodesia stamp in a cigar box of stamps purchased at an auction. These young ladies are supposed to be the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. But I'm thinking Maggie was absent that day because the girl on the right sure ain't her!

I wanted to update this post since my scanning/posting skills seem to have improved.

Who ever (whom ever?) was producing the portraits for stamps in Southern Rhodesian in the 1940s was doing so with one eye tied behind their back. Three out of four of these are unrecognizable...I can't even tell which princess is which on the lower victory stamps.
The face on the 6d orange looks like my mother around that time, and believe me, I'm no prince!

James, these person on the right in the April, 1947 stamp is Princess Margaret as far as I'm concerned. The below image is a picture of her around the late forties/early fifties and I'd say it is her on the stamp.

Ok mhc99, I'll concede it does look like that picture, which I'd never seen before. I just always thought she was the prettier of the two sisters (sorry your majesty) and that stamp portrait did not do her justice at all.

I always thought that Princess Elizabeth had a determined, I'm going to get there no matter the odds, kind of look in her eyes. She is driven to perform.

While Princess Margaret has a happy to see you, I'm so glad you've come by kind of look.

The bottom two stamps look like the artist has switched the chins around from the top stamp.
