Bought a collection and this person, I think, had tons of misidentified stuff. He had these listed as 134-135-136 and I don't see any grill. Nor do I see any secret mark, impossible on the two cent. So I feel pretty comfortable leaving these as 145-146-147, but I would like someone else to have a peek. Thanks - Jeff

The "negative one" cancel really does a number (no pun intended) on that two-cent, but I like the cancel. (More than the stamp...is that wrong?)

No assuming it is 146, then it is no biggie, but the cancel makes it a keeper.

Jeff, back scan looks like soft porous paper. Have you determined paper type? The scans are lower resolution, higher resolution scan would help. 3 cent appears to have secret mark and porous paper (184). 2 cent is vermilion and appear to be porous paper (183). 1 cent looks like re-engraved (206). This is best guess from scan resolution.

1c. secret mark is evident...porous paper so 206 it's not a 145... sorry
2c.. porous paper, secret mark so 183, and no hint of brown so it can't be a 146, 157
3c.. has secret mark, looks hard white so it's a 158..edit.. changed my mind. I think it is porous after all. so it's a 184 or 207

I agree that the 3c is likely 184. I don't think its 207 because the shading around the oval frame isn't thin enough to be 207.

thank you everyone, I sure wish I knew how everyone knows the porous form not. I know I have heard the "flick" test but that has not helped and you all can't be doing that from there looking at my scans. Very frustrating.

open with porous paper, the tips will have little threads of fiber sticking out.

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE EVER TELL ME ABOUT THIS BEFORE

And I don't mean SCF people. I have been reading Linn's Scott's and everything under the sun. No one ever showed me the fibers on the end of the perforations. I think I can do it now with some sense of confidence.

Thank you once again to my friends at SCF.
