As Micarelli predicted the secret mark, that really wasn't a secret mark, but a difference in plates is giving me fits trying to identify these. There are no grills but I can be sure they are Scott 152. Anyone want to help here??

need better pictures....

but it is REALLY hard...
color is every thing on this issue.
the difference between a 141,152 and 163 is hard..
In the lower part of the triangle in the upper left corner two lines have been made heavier forming a "V".
the first stamp is definitely worth getting expertized. Can you make out the date on any of them? IT could lead to an answer..

The second is 189 soft porous paper red orange color. Can you verify paper type for the first there is enough material adhering to the back that I can't visually tell paper type. If it is soft porous it ia 189 if hard wove then 152. It is not 163.

Jeff, I am not 100% sure on the paper but the texture and cancel bleed through looks like wove. I am leaning toward 152.

Russ thank you very much for looking. I am amazed at what you do with a scan as it is and am very pleased and encouraged that you can say "I don't know". It makes me feel all the better about the ones that you say you do know. I could not find threads of the tips so I am going with you on 152.

It looks like hard paper to me..
Hard to tell without looking at it.
hold it up to a very bright light and see how translucent it becomes.
