I've had the itch to start a new collection of some sort, but I can't decide between a number of options. I will be collecting only used material, of course. Which of the following options do you think I should choose. (I'm thinking I know which one the Ausies will pick.) I'm interested in each of the choices and they are listed in no particular order.
Thanks for your input!

Greg:
Central America, inexpensive to collect, Phil can help you with Guatemala, and both Phil and I can hook you up with our mutual friend in Canada, who specializes in Costa Rica USED and he loves to trade stamps. |

Egypt would be my selection. I have just recently begin working on this country. The early stamps are quite nice. |

Swabbie, based on experience I would strongly suggest not trying to collect ONE SPECIFIC YEAR..i was sent a Debs 1992 worldwide album by a fellow who was attempting to put out a yearly worldwide album..i am not sure if Mr. Debs died first or just gave up...i still look for 1992 stamps on a casual basis..but I always find the same darn ones that I already have and everybody else has..very frustrating..where are the other 98 percent ?????? |

Why limit yourself to just one ???
Egypt, US, Australia, Central America....1925-1975......lots of great material, for the most part an inexpensive time period.

Thats funny we had a club auction tonight..and lots of good stuff went begging..one guy who was bidding said "you guys ought to broaden your horizons."..if you specialize too much you are going to have a lot of dry spells..thats why I have the worldwide backup !! |

I like both Egypt and Brazil as a single country collection. Dead countries are also interesting. I was thinking of a collection of pre-1940 countries, that only occupy 1 page in the international album. Maybe 2 pages if they had air mail or revenues, but 1 page sounds more challenging Jim |

I got my first four Egypt stamps recently on post cards from the local junk shop. I really like them alot but then again I have always had a pension for Egyptian History. Go for the Sky via the Pyramids Greg. |

Thanks for the comments everyone!
Phil, I can see your point. I looked through the catalogs at 1950 last night. There really wasn't anything interesting in there.
I've been to Egypt twice and have always been interested in their history, and the stamps from the earlier period are really nice.
I'm going to have to check out album pages for Central America.
Thanks again! |

Hey Greg
When You decide which way you go let me know.
I have many spares from the US and I'm certain my pile of Australian spares is growing. I have lots of others too.
I'll be more than happy to share |

My humble opinion is that the Aussie stamps are much more colorful and handsome than ours! It will keep you busy for quite a while and I THINK you would enjoy them more.

While I have just started, I will be collecting mainly transport, military and Christmas and leaving all the others to Emma. My collection will end up with her anyway. Why limit yourself? |
