I thought this was 166 rose carmine (like I would know the color) but now I am not sure if it is porous? There are some threads sticking out on the ends of the perfs but not enough for me to be sure. The last is the color. I am dead in the water with this. Help Please - Thanks - Jeff

Hold it up to a light looking at the back.

Otto I read what you said to me before about the transparency but I was not clear about it. Can I ask you to explain it once more. I really am paying attention, I just am not understanding what you mean by frame and what you are looking for in that strong light. Thanks otto - Jeff

Jeff, the wove paper is more translucent than the porous paper so when viewed from the back with a light source in the from you will see the printed impression much clearer on the wove paper than on the porous paper. Additionally the porous paper will appear "checkerboard" from the paper. The pics that otto posted in the 15 cent thread shows the difference in the translucency very nicely and also the checkerboard appearance of the porous paper.
The 90 cent here looks soft porous (Scott 191).

Thank you Russ for the opinion and the more detailed information. That's the one piece I was not sure of, which of Otto's scans was which.

Otto: If you are so inclined to mark those two scans I think (at least for me), that would make your explanation tip-top.

Thanks again everyone - If I don't have it now, I am going to go down with the ship.
