I seem to be continually collecting projects and ideas which can go on for years before coming to any sort of completion. One of my current ones started several years ago as the result of coming across these two covers in seperate auctions.
When I received them, I realized that despite being very visually pleasing, they weren't really postally valid as one cent did not by any means pay the letter rate to England even in 1936.
However, it did set me off on a search for further Post Offices in the Canadian Arctic and on the North Slope in Alaska that would give a display of all Post Offices along the NorthWest Passage.
I used 1950 as a cut-off date as that was the year the RCMPV St. Roch completed a circum-navigation of North America after doing two other crossings of the passage - west to east in 1942 and east to west in 1944. I think the 1942 voyage was only the 2cnd made through the passage and the first in a west to east direction and the 1950 trip through the Panama Canal was a first.
I think that was about 10 years ago now and I am still constantly on the hunt for new offices on cover. It can be completed but they are hard to come by. I would love to hear from anyone who has pre-1950 material that they would be willing to part with or even to supply a scan that might serve as a space filler until I can come up with a live candidate.
