In 18 century, Sweden Crown Mail attaching a feather to the wax seal of a letter to indicate that it needed to be delivered more quickly. The Crown Mail was a regional official mail with an organization that varied from county to county. The Crown Mail was organised after the same principles as the General Post, with stations along the route were assigned people carried the official mail forward in a relay system. The Crown Mail carried Public notices and Royal announcements to churches (read from the pulpit and later posted on the notice-board) they also carried Descriptions and other official correspondence between county officials as: The Sheriff, Police, Bailiffs, Assessors, Foresters, Clerks, Clergy and Military personnel. I have some Sweden Royal Post, but I can not read Swedish. Do anyone tell me the Swedish's meaning on the cover? (who and which city sent the letter and it sent to who and which city) 1: 2: 3: 4: 5: 6: 7:

Once the covers are deciphered it looks like there may be some interesting stories within as well. Not sure if you can just type in word and translate or not but google has to have a swedish to english translator. Problem may be a certain dialect back then may not translate perfectly today. These are very interesting and I'm curious to read more about them. |

I should be able to tell you what the text on the cover means, if I can decipher the writing. Reading this old style writing really isn't one of my strengts... Do you have any scans with a higher resolution? With the current size of the images, I'm not able to read all the text. However, from what I can read, the fourth picture might have been sent to a fortress, judging from "FORT" at the bottom. |

I have no knowledge of Swedish but I have taken the liberty of transcribing the body of text on #3 which appear to me as:
af standen, fom har hafva[sic?] fine Deputerade Full-magtige, bora I ratan tid forfe them med tillräckligt[sic?] underball fa for then foljande fom forflunte tiden, pa thet Rilfens stander mage ivinna rade rum,at go ra fadane Författningar [sic?], fom landa til Rongl. Roi:ts vch Rifets fanftnidige fromma. datum ut supra. GUSTAF L.S.
From Google translate:
of rank, starting at have have [sic?] fine Deputies Full-mighty; bora in Ratan time author Them with sufficient [sic?] the ball went fa hadeeth The fol forflunte starting at the time, pa Density Rilfens Stander stomach Ivins rooms, at Go ra fadane Statutes [sic?], starting at land til Rongl. Roi: ts vch Rifets fanftnidige pious. date of the superconductivity. GUSTAV L.S.

Thank you very much! Wadmalatz' answers are right. 1-to Stockholm 5-from Kastelholm to Bomarsund ("Kastelholm" shows on the back of the letter) 6-to Tosarby 7-to Gwarubo for 2nd, I have some higher resolution pictures. 8 the last line is address, would you spell it? 9 these are back of the letter. 10 |
