I recently bought a cheap collection from a local person for $20.00, but the kicker in the deal was this beautiful padded 22 ring binder with 40 pocketed sheets inside it making it well worth the price. Problem is there are no 7 & 8 pocket sheets for smaller Stamps and I can't seem to find these anywhere. If anyone knows of a dealer for these can you please supply me a link ?

stallzer, check out this link for Dauwalders in England which sells 22 ring Salisbury binders:

This retailer probably sells sheets for this type of binder.

Are you sure it is Lighthouse? Or were just using Vario as a representative description? The reason I ask is that as far as I know, LH has never used 22-ring binders.

There are very very few philatelic manufacturers that use 22-ring binders. It would certainly rule out LH and Lindner.

Stanley-Gibbons is the only major manufacturer that I know that has used 22-ring binders. I would try checking them out.

Thanks for the link mhc99! The Salisbury 22-ring binder is an alternative to the SG Universal Binder.

Again, I think the main source is likely SG, but it is probably cheaper to buy from alternatives like Salisbury. Or you may find it cheaper in the long run to use a different binder format. Shipping from across the pond can get really expensive if there is not a local wholesaler.

Khj, sorry if I was confusing. I use vario sheets in my 3 ring Binder but I'd like to move my US Collection into this 22 ring binder but I don't have any of the 7 or 8 pocket sheets like I have in the Vario's. So I just used vario as a comparison.

MHC99, thanks for the link, I'll start there.

For the record the sheets that are in there now were made by a company named 20th Century plastics which is now out of business.

Devil's advocate:
I don't particularly like the look of that plastic,
are you sure they are not made for coins?
I would carry out a beilstein test if I were you
I am currently breaking down a collection
stored in coin pockets and the damage looks severe
(if it can be proved via the plastic)
some stamps have lost all their colour, quite amazing.

Lighthouse is 13-ring and KABE is 16-ring. I know I've seen 22-ring stuff somewhere, but it eludes me...

Sorry,
KirkS

Stanley Gibbons Windsor Album, maybe? That was the first time I saw a 22-ring album page. As it turned out, mine is actually in a springback binder, but the pages are punched for 22-ring.

The binder is actually in excellent condition. Rod, 20th century plastics used to manufacture Stamp display pages so I hope they are ok. What exactly is this test you mentioned, it would be nice to know for sure as I have moved some expensive items into the 22 ring pages.

Ruh Roh Rorge ! Ahhhhhh...just found this,

20th Century Plastics, 206 S Puente St, PO Box 2393, Brea, CA 92822 sells attractive polypropylene products intended for archival photo storage. In particular, the 8.5 x 11 inch photo storage pages seem ideal but a word of caution, however: products offered by 20th Century Plastics specifically for use as stamp albums are made of vinyl and should probably be avoided for the reasons mentioned above under "Vinyl." (they're PVC/PVDC).

An easy test, grab a piece of copper wire

Heat a small portion of the wire, (till flame is neautral)
cig lighter is OK,
introduce red wire to plastic to get a tiny skerrick of plastic
on wire,
then hold back over the flame.

If the flame goes green you have organic chloride
(not good) probably PVC

Here are stamps I bought a few weeks ago
from a PVC coin holder page
stamps had been in 40 or so years
They are hard to explain, the colour seems to have melded into the paper, faded and washed and really, really ugly.

Only some stamps have deteriorated, and the plastic
is not the proven suspect, but the gun is smoking.

I believe I have some of these pages, Stallzer. They are extra wide and made by SAFE. They are also very brittle and crack easily.
