I am just beginning to take more of an interest in U.S. Airmail Issues, particularly since I ran across a batch of interesting covers. I thought to preface the section in my albums with some earlier advertising and this example has the look of 1930s material.

Can anyone date this for me? Even approximately?

The U.S. domestic letter rate was 3c from July 6, 1932 to August 1, 1958. The Airmail rate was 6c from July 1, 1934 to Mar 25, 1944. That 10-year spread is the best I can give you.

That's a lot more definite than my "Gee, the graphics look kind of 30ish."

Thanks for the information.

Found this reference on a UK website, noting a similar item for sale (looks like this one may be a slightly more modern version with an updated graphic and different GPO number):

Quote:
1945 Air Label Booklet: 5x Panes of 4 (rouletted) - Cover as Airmail envelope inscr 'Use Air Mail - Only 3c more' - Code: GPO 5-12181

Here's the link if you're interested:

An interesting piece, to say the least.

Thought I would add some stamps to this thread . . .

UC4 - In use from 1929 to 1944

UC8 - Issued in 1945

Yes, that was a neat bit of research. The printed circular I have must be quite similar in design and certainly shares the slogan though the paper is close to newsprint quality rather than the card stock used in booklet covers that I have seen. Also a bit larger, measuring 15cm x 10cm.

I'll add to your postings, smauggie, and toss in a couple of covers from the beginning of that 10 year time frame that tomiseksj offered. Interestingly, the booklet of air labels was given as 1945 when the slogan no longer applied.
