It is some kind of stamp, obviously... glued in one old tiny notebook... and I am just curious does it ever had some postage usage?

Hi filipo,

It looks like a postmark of the London Two Penny Post (although the one I've seen listed has an oval frame).

I had trouble with the link Rod, but try her other site at http://www.victorianweb.org/previct...c1.html#pic2

where a cover is illustrated, with the same mark. The notes say

"Octagonal transfer datestamp Night 7 OC 30 1824 of the type in use from 1823 until 1831, applied at the Westminster Office (day before month)"

Alcock and Holland's British Postmarks would cover this. Anyone? Anyone? I'm betting it is going to turn out to be a transfer stamp.

Note to self...if you wait to hit "Submit" until you're done refilling your glass, its old news on SCF.

Speedy confirmation.

Hi everyone,
Eunice is otherwise engaged at the moment but if you click on this link
-/letters/Previctorian/bullock.html

you will find a night transfer stamp applied to an old letter.
This one is from the Westminster Office whereas the one shown in the original query is of the Chief Office.

For anyone interested in these markings our home page is at
-

Clicking on
-/phtoc.html
will take you directly to '200 years of British Postal Markings 1668-1868
Hope you find something of interest.
Regards

Ron (and Eunice in absentia) Don't ask where that is
