What kind of stamp is this?
It looks like an Queensland SC#138, but it does not have any numeral 6's in the corners.
Is it rare?
What is it worth?

What is the wmk?
what is the perf?

Looks like chemically altered cancel.

Now then, if you just had sixes in the bottom corners
it would be worth $30,000 upwards.

Woopsies! that was a clanger,
my memory is not what it was.
It was the clear background 6 penny

The stamp is perf 12, and the watermark looks like a double line oval "O".

It would be SG196, and does not have numerals in the corners. Perhaps your Scott number refers to the example Rodney posted (with the white background).

I am allergic to chemicals, so if the cancel was altered, I cannot say yes or no.
The cancel appears to be colored "purple" with an inverted "a", and with a normal "d".
The watermark is visible under strong direct lighting.

Actually, if it's perf 12, it should be an SG 170 of 1882. SG 196 was comb perf 12½,13. Doesn't make any difference to the catalogue value, though: £1.75 in either case.

Well done Tony,

not much difference ...just 8 years!
(That stamp is looking in good nick, for an 1882 stamp)

If you get a computer whiz to enhance the strike,
I think you will find it "GA"
I thought it may have been the "PA" of PAID
a fiscal use.
"GA" doesn't make any sense to me.
Probably fiscal use, I have no experience with fiscal use of
Queensland stamps, but the 1861 stamps have a warning in Gibbons
of cleaned fiscal used stamps.
