Wowzers. You can send them on to me, Phil since I know you don't collect US.

This is why SCF is such a great place! Congratulations to Phil! Also, congratulations to the sender -- I think you got more out of this than even Phil!

Ahem...

I don't have a genuine Scott US #C3a. I only have it on a poster, but not a genuine one in my album. Unlike some other collectors, I'm not that picky about centering nor never-hinged.

What goes around comes around and nothing wrong with a little good karma in the bank. I'm sure it will and has been many times paid forward.

Phil -- the stamps are great and I also like the cancellations on these two.

Phil,

Thanks for the show and tell regarding the generosity of a SCF Member. It's things like this that fill me with good thoughts that I sometimes need to get me through the day.

Stunning gift to be sure! I still desperately need #113. Wasn't they the first issues with a picture of soomething other than Ben or a US president?

I_Love_Stamps,

Yes, the 1869 pictorials were the first USPS stamps to depict subject matter other than Ben Franklin or a US president (mainly Washington).

I find it funny that even in this set, they found it necessary to include Franklin & Washington. It would be another ~50+ years before the USPS stopped using the portraits of Washington and Franklin on their most commonly issued postage stamps.

Talk about hero worship!

Sure, but look at the UK. How many have had a king or queen on them?
