Now Looking For A #2

I finally got my #1 and I couldn't be happier! The one that mhc99 led be to was sold by RScholl
on bidstart.com and he delivered it registered and I had it within 3 days! My next project will be
getting a #2, but since it is so expensive I will more than likely settle for a filler. Any leads, even for a filler, would be appreciated!

VERY big buxx - that is why I would settle for a filler right now
just to keep ol Ben company. Hopefully, in the future, I will find
a good copy. The problem is, as you know, if I could get one now for
say $800 in 5 years it would probably be twice that much!

Fillers tend to sell at a higher percentage of Cat value for this item. And when they are listed for a reasonable price, they go quick!

Just parussing around the bay and came across this #2 and although I'm not usually a US collector I recalled someone was interested.

If you were interested in a #2 uncertified, and had a scan, I would certainly show it off at the VSC expertization site before making any deal. If there is any problem, and there sure could be, they will pick it apart within 48 hours.

When I see something like this posted on a seller's page and there is no description of the condition of the stamp I move on.

Tom, I have been talking to the guy, he is on VSC... He sent me an email this morning stating that he would even send it to me for personal inspection.
Just ask him for pictures of the back..

StampVirgin and I have both been in contact with The seller Ron and this is a great deal. If anyone was serious about a good #2 at a very fair price this one looks like a catch and a half. Small thin but otherwise sound.

I wish I had the spare money, I would buy this in a heart beat.

Actually after further thought and consultation. The thin really kills the stamp.. at 500.00 you wouldn't ever get your money back.

The thin is a definite point killer but not sure if it depleats value to that degree. I could be way off as US is not my fortay but age rarity used value I'd still think $250-$300 . If your using for a filler it would certainly be a higher end filler and should make you content until that gem can be purchased.

While you might be technically correct on your asessment of cat value, SV, I don't agree with you from a practical standpoint. I've been offered more for my copy from a dealer than your proposed offer for this one and mine isn't as nice.

The biggest thing this stamp has going for it is that it is a rare stamp that displays beautifully. As for it not being totally sound? Tis a minor flaw that will not affect the durability nor does it detract from it's attractiveness.

I have little doubt this would fetch $400-$500 if listed in a .99 auction

My assessment was the with the input of several dealers both in the US and Canada. Of whom their opinion I trust.
Whenever I think about spending that much for a stamp, I get a sanity check.

Then again, would any one of them list it as a buy-it-now for $150? I highly doubt it.

At $349 B.I.N. with good presentation it wouldn't last 24 hours on either bidstart or ebay.

I agree that $500 doesn't allow much room for an upside, if resale matters.
