Help ID US 18-24

I know this has been asked and asked again . Can this be ID'd by this scan. Unfortunatly not my stamp so I can't do a higher res scan.

I'm not a expert on these things and I usually have to get things checked on this series
But that looks like a 24 to me by the way the top of the printing is cut off and the blurry side and top design
But I'm sure someone will comment if I'm right or not

Thanks Razer and Russ-- Just to be clear the biggest tell is the image not filling the entire area from top to bottom? (in this case top) Also is the horn shape area in the hairline constant starting just left of the ear and going downward?

This diagram with its assorted designations gives us a common language to talk about this lovely and fascinating variety of stamp.

I start by looking at ornament "R", the backwards "C" shaped doohicky that lower right corner of the lower label is pointing to. If this is cut in half, and there's plenty of margin on the right, I'm almost certainly looking at a type V.

Then start looking around. Wide margins left and right? Check. Top ornaments cut off? Check. Broken outside borders of the labels top and bottom? Check. Left side ornaments cut off? Check. Bottom oranaments, especially the scrolls and plumes cut off or missing? check.

The type V was all about making room for perfing, so everything is cut off on all sides. That said, there are a few circumstances where the right side ornaments are not clipped, or not clipped completely. This is the type Va. It doesn't get a separate Scott number, but it does get separate mention and a significantly higher price in the Specialized (I think it should be #24c, myself). There have been a few Vas on schmeebay lately, and you know people are looking out for them when suddenly a #24 is selling for $60 or more. I'm biding my time and being patient. Hrrm. Trying to be patient.
