US Metered Mail Is Cheap

I know this is a meter, but I found it interesting in that the mail was from my auto club, with at least a dozen flyers in it, and a membership renewal form, and a return envelope and a plastic membership card ... all of which would have cost me at least the second ounce in first class postage had I mailed it, yet the auto club manages to send these out to all of their subscribers for a mere 19 cents. No wonder the post office is going broke!

Very observant of you wt1. And this cheap rate varies depending on how far the mail is going, too. I have been collecting different presort meter rates (though they are not in a presentable format as yet).

I have the beginnings of a meter collection, too. Just not sure how to organize them. Right now the material is either in glassine envelopes by year, (for the older ones from the 1930's and 1940's...before most all of the special rate classes came into effect) and then the more current ones in stockbook pages.

I'd be open to suggestions as to how to best organize a collection of this type. Even though some collectors may not be interested in meters, the sheer number and varieties that are out there make for an interesting collection (to me, anyway).
