Hey All! As I am still new to your forum, and I like what I see here, I thought I would post this question. Please ID this stamp? Thanks Ron

Have to leave to the US pros but if that is an unaltered scan it is one nice bright pink compared to others I've seen. |

Ron, First, welcome to SCF. The whole color/shade question on the 64/65 has come up a lot here. One of the big factors with posted images is how close is the color that I see on my monitor to the actual stamp. The image I see looks very much like the 64b rose pink. |

I compared the color of the scan with the actual stamp and it real close. Nice try on the pink. After I have some other suggestions I will reveal what it is. Ron |

Ron, I know what it is but the color doesn't look right on my monitor. However, the image you posted here is much closer in color than the image in the database. Very nice stamp! |

Russ Thank you for your complement. To help move things along and because it was suggested that this is a #64 pink, I have added this scan of a certified pink. Also it might help with monitor color shifts. Ron |

Ron, have you checked the scan on the database? Color is distinctively different. |

I'm bad with colors. All I can tell you is that it is not ultramarine. Since you posted the 2nd pic for comparison, my guess would be the first stamp you posted is pigeon blood pink (Scott #64a). The left side looks funny -- perf spacing seems off. Possibly reperfed on left side; doesn't look like it would pass the flip/rotate graphics test. Other than that, nice margins and a clean cancel. I wouldn't mind owning that one, but that's not going to happen. k |

So do I get the stamp as a prize? I'm really bad with colors and could use that stamp as a reliable color reference. k |

In case anybody was wondering about the flip/rotate test, it is demonstrated in the pic below. I copied the left perforations and rotated the copy 180 degrees (or alternatively, you can flip it vertically and then flip it horizontally). I then lined up the rotated copy next to the perfs in question on the left side. As you can see, they don't line up very well. Hence, reperf. |

In closing this thread, I would like to add a few things about the A25 issues. First and foremost is be very careful when storing them. They must be keep out of direct sunlight, photo flash will absolutely destroy the color. If you do need to scan them, only use LED scanners. With 65 known printed colors and with the all the changelings it is a real task to ID them. So I strongly suggest always seek out a pro for proper ID. To quote Bill Weiss "I can not show you the color, but I know it when I see it." All the best Ron

Thanks for the fun, Ron! No wonder I won't get my tax forms done on time! Hope you will stick around! Like Russ and the others, I'm sure you'd be a wealth of information for us all! k |
