I have just been trolling the USPS website for an answer of another question I had, and in doing so I came across custom postage for sale at the USPS store. As collectors should we be interested that the USPS is selling these along with their regular issues? They look like the regular stamps.com type stamp valid for postage but not an official issue.
I believe they are stamps.com. My local post office has a display up for them. My guess is the post office gets a percentage of all purchases (which are greatly inflated to begin with) and it's just another way for the post office to make a little extra money.
It does seem to appear to have some conflict of interest though, doesn't it?
They have a little premium to the regular postage. Possibly a conflict. But what I was thinking is the USPS can now come up with stamps without going through all the formal channels and just calling in custom stamps.
