Here's some more from my latest buy, A fun Christmas local post, A steamboat Cancel( St. Louis ). I also have some with no stamp, just the postal regulation allowing the carrying of US Mail.
Third is a first day cover in Space topic.I didn't know the capsule was made in St. Louis.

The Mercury aircraft were made here in St. Louis.
My brother-in-law was one of the individuals who worked on the wiring for the capsules at McDonnel Aircraft, and even though we do not get along, he is a genius, as are all the folks who worked on the project. (I know, I know, it's hard to believe that someone doesn't like little ole me!)
NASA actually ordered 20 spacecraft from McDonnell Aircraft Co., St. Louis, Missouri. Five of the twenty were not flown. Spacecraft #3 and #4 were destroyed during unmanned test flights,#11 sank and was recovered from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean 38 years later. Some spacecraft had changes made after initial production (refurbished after launch abort, modified for longer missions) and some were given a letter designation after their number, 2B, 15B. And some were even modified twice- spacecraft 15 became 15A and then 15B.

Space a great Frontier!

How sweet of you ,Tom!
No, I'm not THAT old (but feeling older every day). There is a 15 year difference between my hubby and his oldest sister--who is married to one of the engineers who worked on the wiring for the Mercury project and is now retired from McDonnel-Douglas Aircraft .He has a ton of memorablia from the project ,and if he ever speaks to me kindly, which will probably NEVER happen because he has his nose too high up in the air (if you get my drift)--I might be able to copy some of the memorabilia for the site. Such is the mechanics of "FAMILY"

PS I hope he reads this on the forum and wakes up
