Thank you very much for all your comments Quote: Is the muted background a Blamire Young watercolor? If not, I've missed the relationship to the stamps. Now, that would have been a very smart thing to do! Unfortunately I did not think of it at the time. The background merely reflects the fashion of that age. On the other hand maybe it wasn't so bad that I did not use one of Young's fine watercolours as he might have turned in his grave. He had very little to do with final Kangaroo & map stamp, that was the demented brain child of the Postmaster of the times. I am afraid that I am not a fan of the issue, we could have done a lot better for our FIRST stamp. A semi-talented child WOULD have done a lot better! Especially when you consider that GB was at about the same time releasing this one: designed by an Australian sculptor...we had the talent, but we also had an egocentric of galactic proportions as a Postmaster/politician. |

forgot my nightly update !!
sorted a ton of stamps with purpose finally LOL.... I have a huge start on my US flag collection and made three smaller sets for trade or sale once I learn how to use our scanner (have had it for 2 years and never bothered to learn how to use it LOL). pulled 100 different US stamps for a wonderful trade from the UK and added a little bonus in there.... went through some stuff given to me and found some nice pieces I soaked carefully and are now pressing before I identify and place in my book... found yet more reasons to make the investment in a magnifying glass as identification of some of these older stamps is next to impossible with out one... also started pulling some stuff for some one considering a start on transportation ... yeah I got you .... LOL
this is partly to repay all the kindnesses shown to me and partly because I am nowso focused that I love moving out the extras LOL... |

Trades are a fun side to the hobby, Bearwithfish, and SCF is a great place to trade. Especially for those of us who can't easily get to meet other collectors in person. It is wonderful to give, and wonderful to receive! |

Thanks Wt1 (once again) you seem to be the Guardian Angel of SCF! I too look forward to trading on SCF...but first I have to get to 50+ posts :-)
Speaking of 'Trade" I attended my first ever stamp & coin trade fair yesterday, a small local affair...but huge in excitement and fun. How much better was it than the sterile purchasing of goods at online auctions? No comparison - trade fairs for me from now on.
Unfortunately I wasn't really prepared: A portable wish/need list is now essential.

Sorry to hear about your finger, bearwithfish, how did you do it? Which one? Were you engaged in non-philatelic activities? Those are always a health hazard!
I hope you were not pointing at someone doing a Robert de Niro act:
"Are you talkin' to me?"
And the next question that begs to be asked is "who is holding the fish now?"
I hope the levity cheers you up a bit, mate

ok longer update .. I was helping my sister-in-law by getting some furniture for her. I broke the end of my finger between a dresser and a cabinet. typing is a bit slower now but as I am right handed and the break is on my left ring finger I can still work and play with stamps lol..... wife really taking an interest in this now that she has some world ones and is really getting into asking a lot of questions ...hope to get her on here soon so we can get better answers than I can provide lol..... just put an order in for 2 stock books a spare and one for her.. she will be happy when they come in.... sorting continues and organization is a daunting task..... better plans at this point from a few weeks ago and now having a lot more fun ... particularly when extras dont fit in my keep books I now have great fun trading ..... as she gets organised she is getting ideas for trades as well lol... I love that I got everyone in the house on board with this as it makes it that much more fun.... |

bearwithfish, I had a lot of sorting to do also, in the end I found that the quickest way was to do an initial sort by face value (easy to do and no need to consult a catalogue everytime); then later as I needed the stamps for my album they were easy to find in the stock book.
