I know I'm relatively new and know about posting links in the rules section however this is NOT my auction and I'm not bidding but this is really cool and thought you might find this interesting as I do!

I guess I should point out that after I been going through my long time forgotten & recently acquired stamp collection and getting them all sorted out and in proper stock books and filling in the gaps as it were- I noticed all the care that was put into the Colombian expo stamps in there and also being coin collector too, I remembered both of my silver halves and medals in my collection, so I think I found my new "topical collection" interest. I been really honing in on all things currency related to the 1892-3 Colombian Exposition! I love this site and the wealth of information here. Thank you. :)

Thanks for sharing. That would fit beautifully into a collection. It would also make a great addition to an exhibition on Columbiana.

That looks pretty cool, and yes a good addition to any collection. Though it looks like a crest or some sort of addition is missing off the back. Still very nice, though too rich for my pauper blood.

I wonder if the missing "Emblem" on the back was a Colombian coin? I don't have any of those coins but it might be cool to re-marry the pieces if it was.

Do you think it might be a match holder- Looks like a striker on the bottom and the embossing might have been added later or at a booth at the fair or something? Just a thought. I bet your absolutely right about that being a Colombian silver half that was affixed to the back. I really like it!

This link says it was a medallion profile of Columbus but doesn't show an image.

I've got a catalog of WCE collectible items. I'll have to check and see if it is pictured.

I have a photo of one of these in my library. The emblem is the same image as the $5 stamp. I'll try to remember to post it when I get home tonight.
