It looks like he has bags under his eyes. Anyone have the 2011 (dare I say 2012) cat value on this one (mint hinged). I know there are a couple of short perfs. This is my first mint Australia KGV.

Hi smauggie, Nice addition to the collection, I think it is a real beauty! I can't help you with 2011/12 prices, but have some additional information that you might like to add to any notes you keep on your stamps. This stamp is ACSC#110 Australia Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue Above I have circled some interesting areas that I would look into in grey, and what I believe to be a catalogued/plated variety in red. A way more experienced collector has corrected me, and informed me this is in fact Stamp 1L5. This should also have a premium over the standard stamp, but that is affected by which shade of orange your stamp is..... There are 9 different shades that are listed in my 2001 catalogue, standard ones being orange and yellow-orange $90, then some of them are pretty extreme like the Lime-yellow, which is listed at $1000. On my screen your stamp looks dull-orange, which is listed for $90.00 plus any premium for the spot on the emu's back. I am still fairly new to Aus. KGV's myself, so I may have made an error in my attempt at identifying your stamp. Confirmation from another KGV collector would be fantastic though, I am pretty sure there are some serious collectors around here to confirm or correct any errors I have made. Have a Good One, Skilo54 *edit* I just noticed the marginal line watermark at the top of this stamp, that will be helpful in determining the ID also. |

A slight change has been made to the image and body of some of the text in my first post smauggie, I was corrected by a KGV collector and have changed the info I posted to reflect the accurate assesment. My apologies for the confusion, learning the ropes and stuff like that! Kind Regards Skilo54 |

Yes, the Australian KGV is extensively studied, it is unbelievable really. If you think you have found something, chances are it is in a specialized catalogue or handbook somewhere, and someone has figured out the plate number and sheet position.
Have a Good One,

Taking this feller to be SG 22a, the yellow-orange on single watermark, the 2011 cat value is £29. Sorry, but my crystal ball clouds over when I try to see the 2012 price I can only see the prices for the Indian States ... |

I have started to sort and mount my Australian stamps. Wow. Five different iterations of the Kangaroo and Map stamp? Really? And now I am just going through the various KGV printings in a dazzling array of colors and shades and dies and varieties and watermarks. It's like King George V himself is daring me "Can you sort out my stamps, lad? Do you have it in you?" |

Looking at the perfs on that 1d red, would that be a good example of the feathering / fuzziness they talk about when describing re-gummed stamps?
Good centering on the 4d orange, smauggie

From all that I have read here at SCF and on other forums, I don't know if I would have it in me to sort out the early Australian issues. I seems like a never-ending task. I am fascinated by the minutiae and detail of stamp collecting. That is why I am in love with the United States Washington-Franklins, and the Penny Red Imperf. of Great Britain. There is always something more to learn. |

I will say that between New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain, I have used up quite a bit of watermark fluid. I can see why people purchase the watermark machines. |

Guys, thanks for posting this thread on KGV Australian stamps. I am in the process of going through approx. 70 KGV stamps and wasn't aware of the large number of varieties. I will get out my magnifying glass while sorting same. Regards Mike |
