Hello, I am a coin/currency collector, I came across an odd item, I have a postage currency, with the picture of George Washington on the front in what appears to be a .10 cent stamp in the center and the number 10 on both sides of his picture.
It says it was made by the National Bank Note Co.NY, the reverse says the number 10 in the middle, with the smaller number ten words spelled out around the larger number 10, 8 times, also has after each word ten and X 8 times.
It also says act approved July 17,1862. It is a very sweet note in very good condition.I am seeking any information on this topic and any information would go a long way in understanding this note.

Any assistance would be appreciated in this matter, Thanking you all in advance, Mike......

Sounds like you are referring to Fractional Currency. Does your example look something like this?

If so, this link may help you to better understand it:

You are good, from my explanation you have put up an example of the exact note I have, in the same condition also, I noticed in the lower left corner the word copy????????

I appreciate your time and effort, Thanks again, Mike....PS, WT1, Is there any way to find out the value on a note like this one.I would place the one I have in EF-AU. I see on the bay, in this condition, this note goes for between $100.00-$600.00, could anyone please give me a more realistic value......
I also did learn from your link, Thank you again....

My illustration is taken from the Wiki link provided ... thus the reason for the word "copy" on it. Fractional Currency is typically not a Stamp Collecting Forum question (at least I've never encountered it before).

Unless someone else is able to chime in with an answer, perhaps the question should be posted on our sister forum for coin/currency collectors at this link:

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/

In any event, I'm glad to have helped to give you some preliminary information.

These could definatly fall under stamps as well as currency . They aere used to purchase stamps only but could also be saved to a certain amount ($5) and then be used as general currency. Wish I had that 10 cent to go with these 2 but I'd also consider offers on these 2 to go with that 1..

I have to say, being a coin collector and a stamp collector, just put the stamps aside for the last 2-3 years, I miss the beautifully designed small pieces of history.(stamps).
I have to also say you both have helped me and for that I am very grateful and appreciative for the knowledge I just learned, one of the greatest things I have come to probably enjoy besides the coins, currency and stamps, are the people and friends I have come to meet being involved in these addicting/passionate hobbies, Thanks for ALL you both have done, and if I can assist either of you in the Numismatic world of coins and currency please ask been collecting since 1963,Be Well, Mike......I found this beauty in a coin shop for a small fee, I think I did OK....I just wanted a more reality price, I think I will place the topic on the coin forum.

in my blackbook of us paper money 2003 edition the values could go from $6.00 average base price to $425.00 uncirculated for that note. I've always wanted some postal currency for my collection.

Nitro, I'd also be interested.
