Every American knows about our savage Civil War and I'm sure most who aren't are also aware of it. The collecting of CSA (Confederate States of America) stamps is very much a part of this forum.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a question about creating a thread concerning CSA currency that I also collect. A moderator of this form suggested I start a post under the general group. Another forum member suggested I post it under our sister forum, coin collectors.

I have given it some thought and I don't collect coins and don't visit that forum at all. So, I'm looking for a consensus concerning posting CSA currency on this forum, under this thread. If members don't think it belongs here, I won't continue it any more than I already have.

Hi Art. I collect CSA stamps and I would love to be able to read any related info. I posted some coins and medallions on some other stamp threads, and was assured by one member that related material was always welcome. So I say, bring it on.

What is the harm? I have an interest in CSA currency. Most stamp collectors are pretty much pack rats anyway and collect anything.

OK, I have a few of my CSA currency ($1, $2, $3, $5, $10 & $20 notes) scanned and saved as a .jpg but they are nearly all around or even over 1 MEG in size. I have loaded the infanview editor but how do you get a file size down to less then 100K? Sorry, I know this has been discussed before but I couldn't locate the thread. Once I get these posted I'll scan the $50, $100, and various fractional notes.

Open a photobucket account to use and the size does not matter. Sometimes it is quicker to use also.

Photo Bucket it is. Once I get everything figured out I'll use it for all my stamp images.

One reason your images are so large is you are not cropping them -- you want to include only the currency, not the large "white" space of the entire platen. Regardless of where you post your images, you need to crop them properly. In most programs, the crop tool looks like a rectangle with a diagonal line through it. If you don't know, check the help in your imaging software.

Most modern scanners are capable of very high resolution, such as 600 or 1200 dpi (expensive scanners go even higher). These resolutions are designed for printing and are much too high for sharing on the web. For web images, the standard is 72 dpi.

It takes a little practice, but all of us here at SCF have managed to learn, so I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon. Don't get discouraged.

In the meantime, if you want to continue to use 'off-site' hosting for your pics, this thread will give you a few tips...

I didn't like them either and I was in a hurry and on my way to Tulsa, OK. I'm still here. I'll rescan when I get back home. Thanks for the info.
