Bob Marley, Reggae genius, the man that brought his music to the world died 30 years ago today on May 11th 1981.
This just my little tribute to a man I admired and whose music I loved and still love today.
It was a nice sunny morning when I awoke on that day in May and a friend came in with the morning paper screaming. I remember it like it was yesterday.
The memories of an amazing concert were still ringing in my ears.

That was a night I will never forget, the very ill Bob Marley prancing around on stage with half of his toes missing on one foot from the cancer that was to eventually take his life. Superb.

Bob Marley was born and is buried in Nine Miles, Jamaica.

Over the years, many stamps have been issued in his honour. Below are [not good scans] of two items, one from his own country and one bogus sheetlet.

If anyone else has any, please post here.

30 years on and not forgotten.

Yea man we be jammin! Not just an awesome singer song writer but a leader for the people. I'm assuming 4/20 (april 20) Marleys Birthday is also celebrated in other places than Canada by smokin da ganja man. Not that I do that anymore. I heard some tidbits on the radio that 4/20 also is the police code for suspect smoking pot and on a not so good note also Hitlers Birthday. Maybe if Hitler smoked ganja he might have mellowed out a bit.
LB you have your dreadlocks flowing in the wind???

Nitro, I wish !
Still, I had the hat and scarf and would always push myself into the middle of the West Indians at concerts. Iused to travel with a buddy half the night and more just to get to a reggae concert !

It started in my latter school years and introduction of early Ska into the UK. I helped run a local disco with friends and ska was in and all that went with it. Two-tone trousers [very short], then suits...it is a lovely memory.
Then when I grew up a bit from those youthful bashes, it was already the Marley era.

Alas, it all ended too soon

I would trade, but for some reason I am attached to them. I am mad at them as well, since I soaked them off cover years ago. I wish I knew what type of junk mail they were on, and if they were actually used legally from Jamaica. Otherwise, they would be yours!
