The first movie I went to where the audience actually clapped and cheered when the Millennium Falcon went into hyperdrive escaping from the Imperial star destroyer and at the movie end. Wow. The first scenes of the camera lowering so you could see the planet and the star destroyer chasing the Princess's ship blew me away, me being an ardent science fiction fan at the time with no movies to speak of existing that could come close to Star Wars.

One of the North American movie posters from Wikipedia
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . .

I started watching a couple of these and fell asleep every time less than half-way through.

They just aren't my type of movie, I guess!

Spanishmoss -- you are obviously not a 14-year old boy

I was 13 when the first one was released. My Dad and I went to the theater to see it -- a nice memory for me.

(Said in my best Scarlett O'Hara impression)-----> Why bless my little ol' soul, Mr. Kirk. What eva gave you the idea I was a 14 year old boy?! I'm a steel magnolia!

Today in 1937:
Golden Gate Bridge opens

And a little George Strait to start the morning off right:

I've got some ocean front property in Arizona
From my front porch you can see the sea.
I've got some ocean front property in Arizona
And if you'll buy that, I'll throw the Golden Gate in free.

Today in history, 1937: Volkswagen is founded.

Has anyone seen this car?

It's covered in 50,350 stamps donated by collectors from across the world and was created in 1997 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Wolfsburg Stamp Collectors Association.

Looks like it would be a lot of fun to drive!
