Just a word of caution, perhaps already given. Be careful what information you give on Facebook. Facebook is a great source of information to the thieves out there. If you indicate that you collect stamps and sometime later you indicate that you're going to visit Aunt Doris that is like giving an open invitation to have you house broken into. Don't believe it? It happened to a friend of my daughters. She and her husband lost all their silver, money, guns and other valuables and it only took about 30 minutes to clean out their house. Please, just be careful what information you put out there on Facebook. |

Stampgal, thank you! I enjoy doing it and it's nice to get responses back from people who never give stamps a second thought. I have also been putting up announcements on Facebook whenever new stamps come out. If I can keep just one person from buying another sheet of those nasty Liberty Bell stamps, I will be happy. |

Great idea. I'll start doing this also!
There is another way of doing this. Someone could build one of those information pages on Facebook that people "Like", and then the topics can be posted there and shared by everyone in their own Walls. |

Andrew, is that what the "Create A Group" button on Facebook is for? I like your idea, just don't know how to do it! |

spanishmoss, this is create a page. A group would be like this forum and we don't want that. A page is like this (not stamp related!): https://www.facebook.com/pages/MG-C...178533493085People like it and receive reminders in their facebook news feed. I've only used facebook for 4 months and I find these pages great sources for news. A lot of junk is there too but a good compliment to email newsletters and forums. I created a page like that recently but I can't remember how! But I think I found out using the help functionality :) In no way am I encouraging moving away from here. This is just an idea to help publicize stamp collecting with others. Last night I started sharing "the World Through Stamps" on my facebook and already got some likes from friends: - May 22 - Conan Doyle - May 23 - Anniversary of the RCMP (Canadian Mounties) A lot of people just don't know how beautiful some stamps are nowadays. It's up to us stamp lovers to show them :) Tomorrow will be the Brooklyn Bridge! |

Good stuff.
We're missing the upload photo functionality for the stamp images. |

Andrew---Thanks for all the info!
I agree with you that Facebook is a great way to promote stamps to people who generally don't think too much about them.
I have been trying to put up things that would appeal to a broad range of people--- sports-related stamps, movie stars, and interesting historical tidbits. You gotta hook them somehow, right?!
Bobby, I couldn't get anything to work when I clicked on the links. Is there a way to fix that? |
