Hi there,

I am wondering if I could have some help from the other collectors out there on the identities of two precancels, and an explanation regarding the lines on the third? Thanks folks!

Here are the first two-

Scott #2123(x5): 3.4c School Bus- P-10 Vert. /Untagged
Precancel info: Nonprofit Org. CAR-RT SORT

Scott #2128(x5): 8.3c Ambulance- P-10 Vert.
Precancel info: Blk. Rt. CAR-RT SORT /Untagged

Scott #1606(x2): 30c Morris Township School- P-10˝ x 11
Two shiny black lines----> missing info, graphite lines, training stamps?

Thanks for taking the time to read this thread, and I look forward to any and all feedback, observations, opinions, or questions regarding these stamps.

I appreciate the help once again,

Skilo54

The first two were meant to be used for discounted rate mailings for Non Profit Organizations and Bulk Rate materials; read as: pamphletts, brochures, magazines, booklets, etc.

The third one is known as a Silent Precancel because it does not name the town and state being used. There's a thread or 2 around here about those penned by Warrehouse if I recall.

Note that the correct Scott #'s should be 2123a (untagged) and 2128a (untagged). The 1606 was a tagged stamp. All are considered Bureau precancels.

Is this precancel also a non-profit organization ?

What mean CAR-RT SORT exactly ?
If it is a precancel stamp, why have a postmark in red ink ?

Someone with the (free) permit to use service-inscribed stamps on ordinary mail may often mix them with regular postage stamps, thereby requiring the usual cancellation, like yours.

I need to get a new permit, as I have hundreds of strips of what most call "precancels," on the Transportation series. If I do, I'll publish the details here.

CAR-RT SORT = Carrier Route Sort.

Here's a description of the usage of the stamp right from the Souvenir Page that was issued when the stamp was introduced:
