OK, I just recently found out about this stamp and I am infatuated with it. From what I've been able to find out about the $500. "Persian rug's" is that was done with a printing plate that was made up of several different pieces. It was then put together like a jigsaw puzzle each piece was for a different color. It was said to time consuming at best but produced a most eye catching and beautiful stamp. Each stamp of that variety was printed on a single piece of stock, not unlike souvenir sheet, and as I understand it was only really used by banks and wealthy merchants. Fascinating to me! This is why I LOVE this hobby!

I have had the pleasure of owning BOTH Persian Rug's. However they were both sold along with my original Revenue Stamp Collection. Their is a book all about these. The Legendary Persian Rug, by Thomas C. Kingsley. It is out of print but can be found at a reasonable price.

Here are what some people call the "Pseudo Rug's"

R102, RB8, RB9 & RB10

The Rug's and these are Truly Works Of Art!
