I'm no HTML wiz so this is just an idea for the tech dept but in place of the side bar frequent post list could Drop down topics be put in place? We could still have top 20 or most recent but a quick drop down with base headings ie US classics (drop down would show recent 20,) world classics , thematics, Canada, UK, and Australia all with drop down to recent 20. Then same for hot topics and could still have recent 50-100. I fully understand this is not an easy task and may be premature and certainly don't want to fall into other forums same old styles. It certainly ain't broke but thinking ahead is always a good idea.

Let's not forget, as the forum gets busier, the "unanswered threads" section. It would be a pity if threads went unanswered and dropped off the end of the 100 too quickly. It would be disheartening for posters, especially newbies.

To be honest, I like this forum the way it is presently functioning. In the five months that I have been here, I have learned a lot and enjoy the pleasant, helpful and positive attitudes of the members. I use the bookmark feature to keep track of interesting and educational threads. When an interesting topic is exhausted, I delete it from my bookmark list. The "topic subscription" feature might also help tracking threads you contributed to. While I agree that threads drop off the "Last 100 Active" list fairly fast, perhaps the programmers could give us the option in a drop down list to select the last 200 active items or another button for last 200 active.

get frustrated when I know that I have responded to a topic and would like to see subsequent posts, but can't remember just what I responded to.

I use "my SCF" it seems to locate all of my posts and the answers that follow.

I agree that this is a great site and there is something new to read and learn about almost every hour, with extremely little moderator involvement necessary or warranted.

I keep thanking Plateflaw for showing me the way...

I mentioned this to Rod somewhere else on SCF, but it bears repeating...

Everyone should experiment with the ACTIVE button -- shows everything since your last login and also groups them by forum. It also gives you that dropdown option mentioned above.

KirkS - Thanks for pointing out the "Active" button because I love being able to select various time frames for viewing threads in the "Active Topics Since" drop down list.

Thank you from lil' ole me too Kirk. Up to just now I had not even looked at that Active button. I was always using the Last 100 Active and thought the Active was just another one like that, but it opens a whole new world! Woo hoo!

I searched pretty far and wide before I landed here

I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones! Google must like this site because it was the first link that came up when I was searching for some philatelic information. As such, this is the first philatelic forum I have used and am glad I found it :)
