As the LVF was independent of the Vichy government, all of the LVF issues were privately issued for the benefit of the LVF.
The Vichy government did issue valid postage depicting its own legion, the
Legion Tricolore. The Legion Tricolore was formed in an attempt to have an army independent of German control. It was disbanded after only 6 months due to German opposition, and incorporated into the LVF.

The stamps were issued in a sheet arranged such that the blue and red stamps were separated by a white row, forming a replica of the French flag.
