I apologize for the poor quality but the image was lifted from an auction lot of worlwide that I was scrolling through.

Would someone please tell me what state issued the unnamed piece? The other is obviously Travancore Anchel but I am not sure of the one with no English visible.

Backroads, your unidentified card is from Nepal. Sad to say, unused cards are quite common; properly used aren't. These often turn up among accumulations of Indian States material, because Nepal was often included among them in the old days.

And before Rod222 grows agitated, it's properly just 'Travancore' not 'Travancore Anchel' (or 'Anchal'). Anchal simply means 'post office'. It also refers to the unique dispensation granted to Cochin and Travancore, which allowed them to exchange mail franked with each other's stamps. The British didn't allow any other States to do this. All ordinary mail between other States had to go through the British Indian post office.

Thanks Tony. Ever since I started getting good answers to all my questions about material from the area, I keep trying to look things up even if they are just pictures in someone elses auction.

Logically, one would not find Nepal among the Indian States. And I shall watch my addition of Anchal to Travancore in the future. That's another case of "I didn't know that!". One would not want to be corrected again in the future.

For interests sake, you might want to have a peek at the Nerdiest Correction ever - forwarded to me by my daughter. :)

Be still, my beating heart....
Lovely Travancore postcard,

If you place it near your left ear,
you may hear it desiring to be in my collection.

It does not understand Nepalese,
and wants
to be with other Travancore stamps.

I can rest easier now that I know about Orcrist. I had to read that three times before I really got what was being corrected.

The nerds among us spotted it at once. For the nerd wannabees, it just takes closer study.

Rod, if you want to drool that seriously, here is the link that leads to the lot in question. Rather expensive for a lonely Travancore card though. I was liking the display of postally used covers but .... Also expensive.
